30 million Children have severe Speech and Hearing impairment globally and 80% of them do not get access to quality education. Only 2% can learn Sign Language. There 300+ different Sign Languages with 5,000 to 200,000 vocabularies. Not sure how the Language (Mother Tongue), Environment, Culture affect the learning.
There are many AI/Computer VIsion research going on for many years. But not much adoption in the mainstream community especially in low income countries where the problem is acute. Some Research estimate an USD980bn economic loss (cost) to the society (2019 estimate). WHO estimates 700 million persons will be affected by 2050.
As per CUHK report , Speech therapists are in short supply globally. In the US the ratio of speech therapists to population is 1:2,290. In Hong Kong, the ratio is 1:20,000. In mainland China, it is 1:1.3 million.

Our research is to make a small dent and how we can add value to this huge problem. This requires real life data collection, applying AI/Machine Learning to categorize and pave way for an inclusive society.
Globally many researchers are working on solutions to tackle this huge problem.
Our goal is to be able to make an impact for small group of Target Persons with Speech/Hearing Impairment may be begin with Tamil and Cantonese language in the age group of 15 to 25 (to be concluded) to enable them Learn how to communicate, Upskill and enable them to deliver Knowledge Based Gigs , Earn sustainably and live with Dignity and Self-reliance.
We hope they can be next generation entrepreneurs creating employment for many more.
